Eligibility Requirements
How Do You Know If You Are Eligible?
To be eligible for BEFA Certification, you must demonstrate that you meet all of the following mandatory requirements:
- You have been formally educated as an architect and completed an architectural education/degree.
- You have practiced as a licensed/registered architect in a foreign jurisdiction. Countries with no registration/license system in place the equivalents of registration/licensure in that/those jurisdiction(s) may be considered.
- You have at least seven years of post-registration/licensure experience in architecture within the last twelve years. This experience can be a combination of foreign and Canadian experience.
- The interview stage of the BEFA process cannot be confirmed until you have obtained at least six months of relevant Canadian experience.
What Happens If I Apply and I Am Not Eligible?
If you apply and are found to be ineligible, there are several potential pathways available to you. The specific options will depend on which eligibility requirement(s) are not met. Our BEFA Administrator will provide guidance and support to help you determine the next steps, as needed.
