Application Fees

The total fee for the three phases of the BEFA application is $6,285.06 including Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). The breakdown is as follows:

Eligibility: $1,099.89 ($973.35 +  HST)

Demonstration of Competency : $2,880.65 ($2,549.25 + HST)

Interview : $2,304.52 (2,039.40 + HST)

All fees are stated in Canadian dollars.  

The fees are paid at the beginning of each phase and are non-refundable.


Based on the results of the online competency demonstration process or your interview, you may be required to pay additional fees should it be determined that you require a re-assessment.

Financial Assistance

The Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund (AICLF) is a micro-loan fund for internationally trained immigrants in Atlantic Canada. Providing micro-loans to newcomers allows them to overcome financial barriers to upgrade their skills and obtain their license or certification so that they can:
• Practice their occupation, regulated or unregulated
• Find opportunities in field or a related field
• Change career to adjust to the labour market needs

Expenses

You will be responsible for personal expenses incurred during your BEFA application process. These could include translation costs, certification or notary costs, and travel and accommodation costs if you need to travel to attend your interview.

BEFA Submission of Documents Timelines
1. Eligibility: Two (2) Months from date of payment

2. Demonstration of Competency: Twelve (12) Months from date of payment to upload all documents

Appeal Fees

For denial of BEFA Eligibility: $565 ($500 + HST)

This fee must be paid prior to the eligibility application re-assessment, and in the event
of a successful outcome, will be refunded.

For denial of BEFA Certification or assignment of remedial actions: $1,695 ($1,500 + HST) 

This fee must be paid prior to re-assessment, and is non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the appeal.
